NKC Football Takes On Raytown: Preview

Brennen Knabe, Writer & Managing Editor

Welcome Back! To cap off the first week of students on campus, NKC football takes on Raytown at home to start the season.

Coming into week one, Raytown is ranked #25 in 810 Varsity’s weekly top 25, NKC remains unranked, but received some consideration. A win this week would solidify the Hornet’s place on the updated list.

Last year, in a week one game filled with back-and-forth action, the Hornets topped the Bluejays, 24-21. The Hornet’s would go on to finish 6-5, whereas the Jays would finish 8-4.

This game is loaded with great matchups. The feared Hornet’s defensive line, headlined by Dom Orange and Edric Hill, two highly touted prospects face an offensive line featuring Logan Reichert, who is ranked 83rd in this year’s senior class.

Raytown also returns stellar running back, Zahmari Gary, who gained over 2000 yards from scrimmage last year. However, to kick off his year against a defense notorious for not giving much up in the air, this will be one to see.

This year, Northtown fields its third quarterback in 3 years, this year transfer from Blue Springs Christian ‘JJ’ Johnson will be at the helm of the new look Hornet offense. After losing primary offensive play-caller, Coach Joiner, to Grandview, where he now serves as head coach.

The redefined attack worked well at the jamboree, and the offense looks to be in “mid-season” form. With both sides of the ball working as fluently as they look, the Hornets are hard to game-plan against, and even harder to beat.

We hope to see you at the friendly confines this Friday night. Family night from begins at 4 and should wrap up around 6, then the game will begin at 7. The theme is white out! See you there!
