A Rivalry, Renewed: NKC vs Platte County

Brennen Knabe, Writer & Managing Editor

In week 4 action, the #15 Pirates of Platte County travel a few minutes south to play the #30 Hornets of North Kansas City.

These two teams are more similar than we think. Both downed their first game of the year to ranked opponents (Raytown beat NKC, Park Hill South beat PCHS). Both start new quarterbacks this year, after the graduation of Chris Ruhnke and the position change of Kail Williams. Both tote top defenses in Missouri, and both look to avenge a loss to the other from last season.

In week 4 last season, the Hornets traveled up to Platte County and won an offensive shootout with an overpowering defensive performance, totaling 4 turnovers and multiple defensive touchdowns. However, the Pirate revenge came at an even better time, to knock the Hornets out of the playoffs, effectively ending their season.

In the ultimate revenge game, this week comes down to the play of the defenses. Can Platte County stop the Johnson-Porter connection that poured in 3 touchdowns last week? Can NKC stop the bootleg-oriented offense of Platte County? Who’s most known for their air-raid style.

Some matchups in this game are between the defensive lines. Platte County fields Chandavian Bradley, #93 in the nation as ranked by 247 Sports, not far behind him, on that very list is Edric Hill. Despite the higher ranking by Bradley, it’s hard to choose any defensive line over that of the Hornets. With fellow ranked recruits PJ Adebawore and Domonique Orange, the Hornet front is bound to give Platte County a few matchup nightmares.

“This team isn’t one to back down to challenges. We’re excited and ready to avenge last year’s playoff loss” junior Tight-End Jackson Baehr said.

Back-to-back weeks now, the Hornets have taken on ranked opponents in games with playoff implications, with an opportunity to break the top 25, we hope to see you back in the friendly confines! This week’s theme is cowboy/wild west!
