Running through the season’s finish line is Northtown’s Cross Country team.
NKC XC found some challenging competition at districts on Oct. 23, with schools such as Liberty, Oak Park, and Staley all in the mix.
“It’s going to be a challenge, but there’s no doubt in my mind that we can do it,” Priscilla Pok, senior, said.
Though it was tough, none of the schools put up fight against Hanna DeVries, Ashley Henry, and Kevin Gutierrez.
These three Hornets crossed the finish line in the top thirty qualifing them for the sectional meet, which took place Oct. 30.
“As a sophomore no one knew I could make it to sectionals, but I ran my hardest in districts and proved that age really is just a number,” Gutierrez, sophomore, said.
Sectionals is an all out brawl and this year DeVries put her nose in the fight and came out on top.
DeVries qualified to participate in the State meet on Nov. 6. She has been trying to qualilfy for three years now.
“It feels really good to finally qualify, I have been fighting for it for so long now, and all my hard work has finally paid off,” DeVries, junior, said.
With three sectional qualifiers and one state qualifier, head coach Chris McCullough has no choice but to be proud about how this season turned out.
