Christmas in America began with the biblical story of Jesus being born in Bethlehem.
Our generation has strayed away from the religious aspects, and turned it into a commercial holiday that reveals our true materialistic nature.
As time has gone on, people have forgotten to even mention the true reasons for the fables, for example Santa Claus came from Saint Nicholas. St. Nick would put coins in shoes that were left out.
People do not seem to honor this saint anymore and have bought into the give me, give me, give me philosophy of society.
Even traveling companies, airlines, and gas companies raise their prices around Christmas time and put adds on TV to get people to “buy their sweetheart a dream get-away for the holidays.”
Are vacations wrong? No, not at all, but the fact that Christmas has become more of a money making season, and a promotions race for incorporations, is just sad. They could help others during the season, but they do not.
America has always been materialistic, but when Christmas comes around, we all show our true colors; Mothers getting in fist fights over the last Tickle Me Elmo, and people looting each others’ carts when the others’ heads are turned.
Sadly, this will most likely only get worse as our generation gets older, and the true meaning of Christmas fades from our society.
