A new club was welcomed into the North Kansas City legacy when the Sunshine Club had their first meeting on Nov. 22.
The club’s founder, senior Alana Huskisson, created the Sunshine Club because she was tired of school’s stressful environment.
“I guess the reason I wanted to start this club is because it seems like most aspects of school are dedicated to causing students stress, so why shouldn’t there be this one thing that says ‘okay, now relax’?” she said.
The club will be creating posters around the school, promoting well-being to all students and staff.
The Sunshine Club’s mission statement is: To promote optimism and encourage well-being in the school community.
In addition to the posters, the club will be setting up bottle and can recycling, collecting money for the rainforest, and other non-profit organizations.
The Sunshine Club’s sponsor is communications arts teacher Steven Hatfield; however, this is a student-run club.
If this new club interests you, then contact Huskisson for more information. Or, just show up to one of the monthly meetings.
Meetings are held the first Monday of every month after school in Hatfield’s room.
