The swim team took three boys to state on the weekend of Nov. 12.
Coached by Kelly Rule, senior Carson Light, junior Griffin Schmitt, and sophomore Hunter Schmitt all qualified for state.
“I’m proud to have been able to see these three boys achieve the goals they’ve had all season,” Rule said.
Light qualified as a sophomore, and junior, and again this year with a score improvement of 20.
Light’s qualifying dive was a 238.
“There was a lot of tough competition this year with a little less than half of the state divers being seniors,” Light said.
Griffin Schmitt qualified in the 500 yard freestyle for the first time on Sept. 25.
Griffin Schmitt had been trying very hard to qualify for state and he was completely shocked when he finally did.
“I’ve worked really hard to get this time, and I was so happy when I finally made the cut,” Griffin Schmitt said.
After one Schmitt qualified, the other one put it into gear, and qualified also, according to Rule.
“After Griffin qualified, I saw the intensity increase in Hunter’s workouts, and I knew that he was going to qualify,” Rule said.
Hunter Schmitt qualified for state in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.33 seconds.
Hunter Schmitt enjoyed the season, and also enjoyed having a talented team.
“This season was awesome,” Hunter Schmitt said.
