The lady Hornet’s basketball team is using their strengths in speed, depth, and defense to try and bring home another conference title as well as win their Northland Classic Tournament.
The Northland Class Tournament is held at Northtown and has 8 other teams playing. The girls sit at the fourth seed, but with their win against Park Hill in the first round of the tournament, the girls have high hopes to go to the championships.
“We have the ability to win. If we play with the same intensity that we know we have, if we are smart with the ball, and don’t have any mental breakdowns, I think we can go to the championships,” senior Ashly Stevenson said.
Recently the team placed second in the Kearney Bulldog Tournament defeating St. Joe Benton, ending their 6 year winning streak.
“We really have come together more as a family than at the start of the season and that is how we defeat teams, working together as a team rather than having one phenom on the team who hogs the ball,” team captain Taylor Thompson said.
Their season is 13-6 and they were featured as team of the week through Channel 9 News.
“We are confident that our team has enough spunk and togetherness to do extremely well in our season as well as we stay focused.,” Thompson said.
The ladies will do everything in their power to succeed in the upcoming games and tournaments but we as students and fellow hornets need to support them at not only their home games but also at their away games.
So throw on your purple and gold hornet attire and come out to show the lady hornets and the other schools that they face that Northtown has school spirit and support their athletes. Because the girls had many away games at the beginning of the season, more games will be at home.
