Wrestling: No weak links

Wrestling: No weak links

As the Hornets’ wrestling team prepares for upcoming districts, the varsity team continues to work hard and striving for success.

“Our top guys have really stepped up to fill the shoes of last year’s top graduating wrestlers like Zack Ballard and Kevin Rupp,” wrestling coach Walker said.

Wrestling districts will be held Feb. 11-12 and the top four finishers of each weight class qualify for state, which takes place Feb. 17 – 19.

Senior wrestler Brock St. Louis and sophomore wrestler Jason Malvaney have great chances of making it through districts and going to state.

St. Louis may be new to the North Kansas City High school this year; however, he is definitely not new to the sport of wrestling.

Last year he finished second at state while wrestling for the Platte City Pirates. And as for this year, he’s shooting for first at state.

St. Louis’s record speaks for itself; he is currently 31-1.

“I’ve got to be more focused this year at state and just be the tannest one out there, that will make the difference,” St. Louis said.

Malvaney is currently ranked fifth in the state and has a record of 17-3. He too hopes to place top four in his weight class at districts so he can join St. Louis at state.

Now at the end of the season, the men’s wrestling team hopes to persevere and uphold their team motto, “no weak links.”
