One Acts consists of students at Northtown, involved inside and out of theatre, who demonstrate their creativity to direct plays of their own.
“One Acts are the best way for everyone to get a hands-on experience. I had so much fun directing mine last year that I submitted one again this year,” senior Taylor Ayers said.
Not only do they get to direct their own play but obtain the full experience that comes with directing and planning a play. Both underclassmen and upperclassmen are given fair opportunity to submit their creation.
“One Act is a great way to introduce acting to underclassmen and yet a great way for seniors to finish their acting career in high school,” senior Max Kelderhouse said.
Equally important, the student directors hold tryouts open to any student wanting to perform in a role of the short play. Since the play is not that lengthy, there are not really that many major roles.
“It is a good opportunity to experience what it is to have a mini lead role. I recommend anyone who is considering in theatre but is not involved in a class to go ahead and give it a try. Being part of One Act is a great way to perform without all the stress from big plays,” senior Karolina Kosinska said.
Senior Robbie Noland shares the same opinion with Kosinska. Those who decide to take part of the play don’t have to have much experience. Instead they gain the experience by taking part of the plays.
“One Act is a good chance for students who aren’t sure if they are interested in theatre. Almost everyone gets to participate,” Noland said.
This year’s One Acts will take place on May 5 and 6. Tickets will be $5.
The following student directors and shows are: “Washington B.C.” directed by senior Eugene McManus,”True Colors Personality” written and directed by junior Lauren Mullins, “Rapunzul Uncut” directed by junior Sierra Walker, “Railing it Uptown” directed by junior Sara Wegenka, “Hello Broken” written and directed by junior Ceres Campos, “One Step Beyond” written and directed by senior Taylor Ayers, and “Spotted Man” directed by junior Kenzie Adams.
