May 20 and June 1 may be two different dates on the calendar but they both mean the same thing: the start of summer for high school students at North Kansas City High School.
Now after 10 excruciating months of school, every student is dying for a change of scenery, but that doesn’t necessary mean the same thing for everyone.
“Oh man, for me it’s all about three things in the summer football, work, and pool,” junior Ethan McFarland said.
Some students will use their time away from school to travel and get away from Kansas City.
“I think I’m going to Chicago to see the Science and Industry Museum then I’ll probably go to South Bend, Indiana to see the Studebaker Museum!” senior Hannah Studebaker said.
It’s safe to say that after the blizzard of 2011, many students will be spending some lazy hours by the pool catching some rays this summer.
Along with getting a tan, working is one of the most common activities on many students’ summer agendas.
“Now that I don’t play a sport all summer, I’m just going to work at Arrowhead Stadium making bank,” senior Marc Davidson said.
Even if there is nothing to do on a lazy summer day, it’s guaranteed that everyone will still be in a good mood.
Local popular summer destinations such as Island ice or Long Boards will be busy, and there will be plenty of time for relaxing.
“Above everything else, I’m just really excited to drive around listening to some good CD’s with the windows down and the sun shining,” junior Melaina Bixler said.
Summer has big plans for everyone, including the seniors who will be enjoying their last high school summer.
For a lot of seniors, these are the last couple months before they head off to college and begin a whole new life.
”I leave in August for Northwest Missouri State, so this summer I need to buy a TV, a comforter, and a year pass for Netflix,” senior Wilson Rife said.
