The boys’ tennis team is going strong and swinging past their opponents.

The varsity team so far is 9 and 3 and the JV is 9 and 2. They had a game Tuesday April 26, at St Joe, and lost 3-6. They tried to come from behind to win, but they fell a little short.

“We’re doing really well. We are performing very consistently and it’s exciting to know that next year we’ll get better because we won’t be losing any of our top varsity,” junior Bao Nguyen said.

They also had a game Wednesday April 27 at Staley, where the varsity won 7-2, they play at the northland tournament on Saturday.

Their senior night is Monday against Ruskin where the Hornets dominated. Their record as a team is 18 and 5.

Head Coach Jeff Lacey is very proud of his players.

“I chose to be a coach because I like working with kids, I played tennis when I was in high school here and I still play for fun,” Lacey said.

Richard Ngyuen, Kevin Pham, Caleb McQuery are freshmen that according to Lacey have had no previous experience before joining the team, but have shown great potential over these past few months.

Lacey said the team’s most improved players are Greg Tluscik and Alija Omerovic, who are both juniors and the captains.

“We’ve been putting a lot of hard work into our practices though we haven’t had a lot of practices but our team is still getting better every match,” Omerovic said.
