This year Northtown has a new head football coach, Leon Douglas.
He is not new to the football program entirely; he was a part of the varsity staff last year and was promoted.
He is working to improve the team not just in football but academics too.
The team needs to “definitely do a better job in the classroom so all our athletes will be eligible to play,” said Coach Douglas.
“Compete,” yelled Douglas to the team at halftime of the Lee’s Summit West game.
He was talking about being competitive during a football game, since they were losing 35-0 at the half.
Being competitive is not just in events, but also in life.
Coach Douglas doesn’t just want to change the team as a whole, but also as individuals.
During their lunch periods on Tuesday through Friday, they have to go to the hospitality room to eat and watch film from previous games and practices.
On Mondays when they are free to go out to eat, Douglas wants them to stay on the sidewalk, never walk on the grass, and always to be polite and have manners.
Even though the varsity team is 0-4 currently, Coach Douglas believes this football team has the potential to change in the next few years or less.
