“Everybody knows everybody; Everybody calls ya friend; you don’t need an invitation; lace up your shoes, run on in; Ya we know how to work and we know how to play; We run cross country, and we like it that way.”
Family and friendship are what the Hornet runners are all about.
Being a runner doesn’t simply mean lacing up your shoes and going out for a run. It’s sharing blood and sweat with a teammate, sympathizing the pain they’re going through, because you’re going through it with them, mile by mile, stride by stride, pushing them, running them, making the two of you stronger.
Coach McCullough is wishing for more of his runners to hit that Varsity runners time. Tucker Seise, Lasse Fuss, Kevin Gutierrez and Dyllan West boys made it across the finish line under lettering time, giving McCullough something to really smile about.
Hannah DeVries and Ashely Henery made it across that line with the same sweat driven pride, building to the moment Coach has been waiting for.
“The fundamentals of Cross Country include the willingness to put in a lot of training and running. It requires hard work,” said McCullough. “In practice we train for a 5K race, running 25 to 50 miles per week.”
These guys aren’t getting off too easy, because this team has one hill of a time, making Cross Country one hill of a sport!
