Proud Volleyball Players
The thud of knees hitting the ground could be heard throughout the gymnasium and the shouts of cheers could be heard throughout the school. That’s right, it’s volleyball season and the volleyball girls are on a roll.
“The season has been positive across the board,’ said volleyball coach, Michelle Strack, “We are very young at both levels and continue to grow.”
The team won their first game, but went through a bit of a bump in their second game when they lost to Staley JV 15-25/ Varsity 17-25 on September 19.
The girls were not discouraged though and brought it all to the table the next two games against Raytown and Fort Osage. They demolished the other teams. The whole team put all their effort into winning and it paid off.
“There’s been a lot of improvement this season,” said junior Ashley Happy, “This year has been the best since I started playing.”
The volleyball girls have only lost two games this entire season. Though one may thank the entire team for that, but there are some players that deserve a shout out.
“Our juniors, Ashley Happy and Kiesha Bailey have led our team with outstanding network this season,” said Strack, “Our defensive specialist Shelby Dewitt and Kennedy Ruckh have kept our back court alive.”
This season hasn’t just been all work though. Ashley Happy, who has been a varsity player for the volleyball team since her freshman year, has “enjoyed this season.”
“I love the game. I love being competitive and I like hitting the ball not kicking a ball and I’ve been exposed to volleyball for a long time.”
Compared to last year, the volleyball girls won a lot more games this year. Though the girls have been winning they still seem to be lacking students’ support at their games.
“More people should come,” says Ashley Happy, “I know lots of football players attend, but more people attending would always be great.”
Though Northtowns’ 2013 volleyball season is almost over, there is always next season to make more memorable memories like the ones made this season for the volleyball girls.
