The Kansas City chiefs finished with a 9-7 record but failed to make the playoffs for the 7^th time in the past 10 seasons. Most teams would say 9-7 would be a success but for the chiefs this season felt like a disappointment. Chief’s fans expected the chiefs to make it to the playoffs for the 2^nd year in a row but failed to win their division or make it as a wildcard and a big reason for that is how bad the chiefs handled their offseason.

The chiefs ranked 29^th in passing yards last season and 25^th in total offense so it was apparent that they needed help on the offensive side of the ball. Going into the 2014 draft everyone thought that the chiefs would draft a wide receiver but with the 23^rd overall pick the chiefs drafted defensive end Dee Ford. People were so surprised because of the depth of wide receivers in the draft but the chiefs decided to add more on the defensive side of the ball. It must hurt the chiefs now to see how good this class of rookie wide receivers is doing.

The whole offseason the chiefs did not sign a single wide receiver in a passing offense that ranked in the bottom half of the league in almost all categories. The chiefs have to address this problem after a season where they threw 0-passing touchdowns to wide receivers, a record that only 4 teams hold and has not been done since the 1964 New York Giants. Another big decision the chiefs will have to make is whether they will re-sign linebacker Justin Houston who had a chiefs franchise record 22 sacks last season.

The chiefs finished 9-7 but failed to make the playoffs so the season could be seen as a disappointment. The chiefs have a lot to deal with this offseason and there is a lot of work to be done.
