A Little More Alive

A Little More Alive is an original musical that made its world debut April 11th at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. It captivates audiences with ease.
Some theatre students had the opportunities to see the show throughout it’s run time. Sophomores Connor Beshears and Michella Caravella were just two that have seen the show.
Beshears said, “It’s the best musical I’ve seen so far” and Caravella said, “The music was fantastic and it was very easy for teens to watch.”

The opening song, “Pot at a Funeral” shocks the audience for a beat, but the hilarity of the song distracts from the jolting start of the show.
Brothers Nate and Jeremy, who are only 3 years apart but couldn’t be more different, are introduced and immediately the weak bond between the two is very noticeable. Nate seems is the slacker type that still lives at home in his dad’s basement and has no motivation to make anything of his life. His little brother Jeremy is work-motivated, attached to his cellphone, and is determined to make his way up in the company. He never visited before his mother died and plans to leave the morning after the funeral.
The brother’s find old love letters exchanged between their mother and another man during some of the best times of their childhood. Nate demands they tell dad and go find the guy and beat him up. Jeremy tells Nate that they can’t tell dad, ever. But, after begging like a 6-year old, Jeremy gives in to Nate’s requests to find the guy and decides to stay for “24 more hours.”

The next morning, Jeremy is startled when Lizzie is making her way through the kitchen and he has not one idea who she is. They make each other’s acquaintances and the three are on their way to find the guy their mother had an affair with.
The funny high points in the show that are directly followed by tense low points for the characters seems to put the audience in a trance that they don’t want to break, and the actors do an amazing job at making the characters connect with the audience.
