Robotics is a very welcoming after school program for North Kansas City High School. The head coach is Louis Breinin who is also the main engineering teacher at Northtown.
He is very enthusiastic about the robotics team and has tried to recruit as many people into the team as possible. The current team is “5098.” They can be found in the basement of the Norclay building during practices, where they play music, create the year’s new robot, and repair previous bots.
Currently they are working hard to produce another robot. The robotics team is required to build an entirely new bot every year per the competition’s guidelines. These new bots need to complete new and different tasks than the previous. One of their early robots from 2015, Guido, was a part of the Recycle Rush competition.
In order to pass regulation, they must complete a series of safety tests. Each student must pass with a 100% to ensure they know what to do if or when something happens. After these safety tests they get to work right away on designing and operating various machines to manufacture and assemble the robots that they showcase, fight, and compete with.
The robotics team meets every Monday and Wednesday from 3-6 and students interesting in getting hands on these robots should contact Breinin, located in room A104, and join the STING-R Team.
